Good Credit Cards

Here are some of our recommendations for what would be good credit cards. However, it depends on individual preferences too, as the requirements of one customer could be different from that of another. It is up to the card issuers to determine which card holders are eligible for these cards and which ones aren't. Good credit cards usually offer lower APR and waive off annual fee for the first year. There are special rewards too in the form of cash back bonus and loyalty points. Some credit cards also offer low introductory APRs for the first 3 or 6 months.

What Defines Good Credit Cards and How to Benefit

Good credit cards are cards offered to card holders with good credit. These cards generally have better rewards and benefits and are offered to those with good credit history.

What is 'good' credit history?

The credit history of the individual is the credit file that lists every single payment made, every credit applied for and every event related to credit line. It is maintained by the 3 credit bureaus and is available to credit card issuers upon request when you apply for a credit card. Based on the credit file and the history, an individual's creditworthiness is determined, by arriving at a credit score, which is usually between 350 and 850. A score of 350 represents bad credit while a score of 850 is perfect credit history. A lot of people tend to have credit scores between 600 and 800. A good credit score is therefore anything between 700 and 750. These are the customers, who are usually eligible for good credit cards.

Benefits of good credit cards

Good credit cards have some special benefits, but none more important than the lower APRs that are available. Most credit cards for good credit history are hovering between 11 - 20%. Some credit cards have low and fixed APRs while others have APRs that are variable and depend upon various factors like the national prime rate or the individual's consistency in making payments on time.

How to use these cards

Credit cards for good credit history are usually stepping stones for customers who want to improve their credit history and push their credit scores beyond 750. That is because cards for excellent credit will allow them to make plenty of savings, thereby making their credit history count in financial terms too. Good credit cards are accompanied by reasonable benefits like 1% cash back in some cases, bonus miles, good customer service, no caps or expiry dates on rewards and intro offers. A good example of how these credit cards work is shown by a balance transfer offer. While the introductory period for 0% APR on balance transfers lasts usually up to 6 months for those with fair credit, good credit history can get you an introductory period of up to 12 months. It means an interest free loan for an entire year. A lot of good credit cards also come with dedicated customer service and $0 fraud liability, when the card is stolen or lost.
